Rick Santorum leads the Tennessee Republican presidential primary with 35%. Santorum is followed by Mitt Romney with 31%, Newt Gingrich with 20%, and Ron Paul with 9%.

Santorum leads Romney 35% to 28% among self-identified Republicans, followed by Gingrich with 25% and Paul with 8%. Among self-identified independents and Democrats, Romney leads with 40%, followed by Santorum with 34%, Paul with 12%, and Gingrich with 6%.

Santorum leads Romney 47% to 35% among likely Republican primary voters saying they have already voted in the March 6 primary, followed by Gingrich with 11% and Paul with 7%. Santorum leads Romney 32% to 30% among those saying they will vote on March 6, followed by Gingrich with 23%, and Paul with 9%.

Santorum leads with 43% among likely Republican primary voters saying they are supporters of the Tea Party, followed by Gingrich with 30%, Romney with 17%, and Paul with 5%. Among likely primary voters saying they are not supporters of the Tea Party or are undecided about the Tea Party, Romney leads with 49%, followed by Santorum with 24%, Paul with 14%, and Gingrich with 8%.

Santorum leads Romney 36% to 27% among men, followed by Gingrich with 23% and Paul with 9%. Romney leads Santorum 35% to 33% among women, followed by Gingrich with 18% and Paul with 9%.

The American Research Group has been conducting surveys of voters since 1985.

Sample Size: 600 completed telephone interviews among a random sample of likely Republican primary voters living in Tennessee (455 self-identified Republicans, 89 self-identified independents, and 56 self-identified Democrats).

Sample Dates: March 1-3, 2012

Margin of Error: ± 4 percentage points, 95% of the time, on questions where opinion is evenly split. An "*" in the tables indicates responses of less than 1/2 of 1 percent.
