62% Disapprove of the Way Trump is Handling His Job and
64% Disapprove of the Way Trump is Handling the Economy
A total of 35% of Americans say they approve of
the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president and 62% say they
disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job according to the latest
survey from the American Research Group. In October, 37% of Americans
approved of the way Trump was handling his job and 60% disapproved.
In November 2017, 35% approved of
the way Trump was handling his job as president and 61%
disapproved.
When it comes to Trump's handling of the economy, 32% of Americans approve
and 64% disapprove. In October, 34% of Americans approved of the way Trump was handling the economy and 63% disapproved.
In November 2017, 36% approved of the way Trump
was
handling the economy and 56% disapproved. [This
survey also asked respondents to estimate their spending for Christmas
gifts. Overall average spending is $764, down from $820 in 2024. Among
the 35% saying they approve of the way Trump is handling his job, the
average spending for Christmas gifts is $675. Among the 62% saying they
disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job, the average spending
for Christmas gifts is $814. In November 2017, among the 35% saying
they approved of the way Trump was handling his job, the average
spending for Christmas gifts was $820. Among the 61% saying they
disapproved of the way Trump was handling his job in November 2017, the

Among Americans registered to vote, 35% approve
of the way Trump is handling his job as president and 62% disapprove.
On Trump's handling of the economy, 33% of registered voters approve
and 64% disapprove. Of
the 35% of Americans saying they approve of the
way Trump is handling
his job as president in the current survey, 18% say they expect the
national economy will be
better a year from now, 22% say the national economy will be the same,
and 55% say they expect the national economy
will be worse a year from now. In February 2025 among the 43% then
saying they approved of the way Trump was handling his job, 46% said
they expected the national economy to be better in a year, 11% said
they expected the national economy to be the same in a year, and 30%
said they expected the national economy to be worse in a year. Of
the 62% saying they
disapprove of the way
Trump his handling his job as president in the current survey, 73% say they expect the
national economy will be worse a year from now.
Of the 35% of Americans saying they approve of the
way Trump
is
handling his job as president in the current survey, 15% say they
expect the financial situations in their
households will be better a year from now, 31% say they expect the
financial situations in their households will be the same a year from
now, and 45% say they expect the financial situations in their
households will be worse a year from now. In
February 2025 among the 43% then saying they approved of the way Trump
was
handling his job, 43% said they expected the financial situations in
their households would be better in a year, 39% said they expected
the financial situations in their households would be the
same in a year, and 11% said they expected the financial situations in their households would be
worse in a year.
Of
the 62% saying they disapprove of the way Trump his handling his job as
president in the current survey, 6% say they
expect the financial situations in their
households will be better a year from now, 22% say they expect the
financial situations in their households will be the same a year from
now, and 66% say they expect the financial situations in their
households will be worse a year from now. The results presented here are based on 1,100
completed interviews conducted among a nationwide random sample of
adults November 17 through 20,
2025.
The theoretical margin of error for the total sample is plus or minus
3 percentage points, 95% of the time, on questions where opinion is
evenly split.
Overall, 35% of Americans say that they approve of
the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president, 62% disapprove,
and 3% are undecided.

Among Republicans (32% of adults registered to
vote in the survey and 29% of all adults in the survey), 74% approve of
the way Trump is handling his job and 24% disapprove. Among Democrats
(32% of adults registered to vote in the survey and 29% of all adults
in the survey), 1% approve and 98% disapprove of the way Trump is
handling his job. Among independents (36% of adults registered to vote
in the survey and 32% of all adults in the survey), 31% approve and 65%
disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job as president.
Overall, 32% of Americans say that they approve of
the way Donald Trump is handling the economy, 64% disapprove, and 4%
are undecided. Among registered voters, 33% approve and 64% disapprove
of the way Trump is handling the economy.

handling the economy and 30% disapprove. Among Democrats, 1% approve
of the way Trump is handling the economy and 98% disapprove. Among
independents, 30% approve and 63% disapprove of the way Trump is
handling the economy.
A total of 8% of Americans say that the national
economy is getting
better, 16% say it is staying the same, and 72% say the national
economy is getting worse.
