Electoral Vote Calculator

In the race for president, the winner of the popular vote in each state wins all the electoral votes in that state (except in Maine and Nebraska). There are 538 total electoral votes and 270 electoral votes - a majority - are needed to win.

Use the Electoral Vote Calculator to determine the total electoral votes for the Republican and Democratic candidates by selecting the Rep or Dem button for each state. The calculator only allows for one winner in each state.

The calculator has been pre-set to the 2004 election results in the race between George W. Bush, the Republican, and John Kerry, the Democrat.

The totals for the Republican and the Democrat are automatically recalculated as the candidates are selected. The calculator can be returned to the 2004 results by clicking the reset button.
